The town was founded in 1793 under the name of "Heraclea" and renamed Saint-Tropez in 1801. Saint-Tropez has become a myth, and contributed to the fame of the Côte d'Azur. Here, everything is famous and celebrated - There are about forty beaches on the peninsula: Tahiti, la Bouillabaisse, la Ponche, les Caneliers, Salins, Pampelonne. The "Place des Lices" where, under the plane trees, the game of boules is played, mixing showbiz stars and local stars wearing leather sandals (the "Tropéziennes") and sipping Pastis.

In 1960, St Tropez became "St Trop" when the artistic and intellectual world discovered Brigitte Bardot who had settled there for over 20 years. It then became one of the favorite resorts of the Parisian society and the international jet-set, whose nightlife is lively in the famous private parties in the luxurious villas of the Gulf with their aerial ballet of helicopters. In summer, at the terraces of cafés, the visitor’s favorite activity is to "see and be seen". On the port, the gigantic yachts, proudly moored, compete in size, cleanliness, crew in front of thousands of curious and fascinated vacationers. Without the crowd, the old village of St Tropez will reveal itself with its charming little streets and flowers in warm colors. In the morning, the "place aux Herbes" offers vegetables, fruits and flowers right next to the marina where fishermen sell their fish, near the famous breweries "Le Gorille" and "Sénéquier". A typical Provençal market is held every Tuesday and Saturday morning on the "place des Lices". Every year the "Bravades" of St Tropez, a religious and festive procession, are very lively and lively: the first ones start in May, the last around 15 June. Don’t miss the Annonciade museum with its collection of works by Paul Signac, Braque, Matisse, Utrillo, Van Dongen, Bonnard, Dufy... as well as the butterfly house. It is difficult to park and reach St. Tropez by road. Prefer the large port parking lot at the entrance of the village. Park in St. Tropez
